AIM Library Assistant

A scholarly digital library where members don’t just read — they ask, get human-like answers, open the exact page, and continue the conversation anytime.

Ambedkar International Mission (AIM) · Nonprofit · Knowledge & Digital Outreach

Ask the library like ChatGPT — answers only from Ambedkar’s books

AIM’s text library already held Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s writings online. We added Ask Library — a ChatGPT-style assistant that answers only from the library books, with citations, Open book links, English / Hindi / Marathi support, voice input, and a full-screen Assistant with chat history.

Product screens

What users actually see

Live screens from the AIM Text Library and full Library Assistant — floating Ask Library on the shelf, then the maximized Assistant with history, citations, and Open book links.

The challenge

Why this was needed

AIM’s e-library let visitors browse and read important books — but discovery stayed manual. Members still had to search page by page across English and Indic texts. The client needed AI that feels like ChatGPT, without inventing content outside Ambedkar’s corpus and the mission library.

What we built

Solution in short

We delivered a WordPress-native Library Assistant inside the existing AIM site: floating Ask Library on book pages, a ChatGPT-like panel with Maximize to a full Assistant, answers grounded in real book pages, citations with Open book deep links, multilingual voice, and member-only chat history — without breaking live library features.

Key capabilities

  • ChatGPT-style Q&A grounded in library text
  • Citations + Open book deep links to the exact page
  • This book / All books search scope
  • English, Hindi, and Marathi support
  • Voice questions + Listen on answers
  • Full-screen Assistant with per-member chat history
  • Admin AI settings (OpenRouter / Gemini)

Outcomes

  • Members query the corpus in natural language
  • Faster path from question to reading the source page
  • Supports Indic-language library content where text pages exist
  • Admin keeps control of models and API spend
  • Additive module — library, members, and analytics kept working

Under the hood

Tech snapshot

  • WordPress (Divi child theme)
  • Existing library book & page data as knowledge source
  • Conversations & messages linked to WordPress users
  • OpenRouter and/or Google Gemini (admin-configured)
  • Floating widget + full Assistant page
  • Member login required; API keys stay server-side

Perfect for

  • Nonprofits & missions with large text archives
  • Educational libraries and research portals
  • Membership sites that need trusted, cited AI — not hallucinations

Client feedback

What this project meant for the client

Ask Library turned our e-books into a living conversation. Members ask in their own words and land on the exact page — it feels modern, but stays faithful to Ambedkar’s writings.

Ambedkar International Mission · E-Library Project · AIM

We needed AI that members would actually trust. The team didn’t bolt on a generic chatbot — they built an assistant that reads from our library, cites the book, and opens the paragraph. The ChatGPT-style full screen with history is exactly what our users expected.

From voice questions in Marathi to opening the cited page in one tap — this is how a mission library should use AI: helpful, grounded, and member-first.
